Last weekend I held our first outdoor or 'Plein Air' painting course at the Lake Hotel.

Last weekend Tina Reed , Killarney Art Holidays, held our first outdoor or 'Plein Air' painting course at the Lake Hotel. The weather couldnt have been better, and we sat out on the hotel lawn surrounded by panoramic views of the lakes, mountains and National Park. There really couldnt be a better setting.
For the last 3 years I have been running step-by-step oil painting classes from my studio in Ross Road, but now having moved to the Clydagh Valley, I will be running courses in conjunction with the Lake Hotel, outdoors weather permitting, and inside with Lake Views as an alternative. Im excited about the new location, and Im able to give participants a discount on course cost for people who are staying at the Lake Hotel, and the Lake Hotel are also offering special accomodation rates for painters doing a course.
Classes are suitable for beginner and intermediate painters and at our course this weekend we had some who had painted before but also two ladies who were painting for the first time. The hardest part was deciding which lovely view to paint, and after a bit of deliberating, we set up on the lawns at the back of the hotel.
‘Plein Air’ or ‘Outdoor’ painting is different to a studio setting, there’s a wonderful sense of being part of what you’re painting, which is really something in a location as beautiful and tranquil as the Lake Hotel. Classes are the same format as before, with small groups and step-by-step instruction with Tina Reed. A full set of course notes is given out, describing the techniques used during the course with reminders and tips on colour mixing, composition and brush/ palette-knife methods.
Courses are running through the year, one weekend a month and one week a month. The next course is Monday May 24th, some places are still available for a 3-day or 5-day option.
Please call Tina on 085 7773538 or see www.killarneyartholidays.com for details.
